Wise words

People are always ready to admit a mans ability after he gets there
Bob Edwards

Funny that! While you are working hard at achieving your dreams almost everybody doubts you and some even ridicule you. I've heard some of these quite often:
'get your head out of the clouds'
'nobody has ever done that before'
'things like that don't happen to normal people like us'
'stop dreaming'
'nice dream, but you have to face reality'
'who do you think you are?'
and my most favourite "don't forget who you are and that this is South Africa', apparently dreams don't come true for South Africans, only for the lucky people who happened to be born outside of Africa LOL!

And once you have achieved what you set out to achieve (and are moving along quite successfully) everyone suddenly agrees that you are the best. This is why i am not looking for any ones approval while I'm working at fulfilling my destiny and making my dreams come true, because people only believe once they've seen you do it.

I guess this is where most of us go wrong: looking for someone to agree with us and let us know we are on the right path. I say go with the 'madness' of your passion and dream and you'll be so much more satisfied when all the 'sane' people who dare not to dream look to a mad man (you) for inspiration and sing your praises. There is nothing IMPOSSIBLE about your dreams, so just go for it one step at a time! Hooweee I'm feeling so inspired this morning :)

The Creator has not given you a longing to do that which you have no ability to do
Orison Swett Marden

Don't let the fear or the doubt stop you either, they are a very necessary part of the process, because on the other side of fear and doubt is some of your most amazing work yet!

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face ... we must do that which we think we cannot. Eleanor Roosevelt

What a pleasant surprise!

Last night Marcee and I went to watched Iron Man. We weren't actually sure what we wanted to watch but we went to the late show and decided on the spot. Okay not really. We called up Junior and he said it was the coolest Marvel movie yet, so we bought the tickets. I expected it to be as good as 'Daredevil', which was a COMPLETE DISASTER.... Oh goodness it was bad!
But Iron Man did not disappoint, it was pleasantly entertaining. I was not bored for one minute. I'm happy to see Robert Downey Jr is back at work.

Go see this one and satisfy your inner 'little boy' LOL! My inner little boy is completely thrilled.

EP Diary - more Tea

Yesterday I met up with C.B (producer) and we added more frills to the Teacup song, I actually have a rough bounce and I'm dying to put it up, but I must be patient. I want you to hear it in all it's (COMPLETE) beauty. I'm not claiming to be the best singer ever (that is a bullshit claim because how people respond differently to sounds), but I am happy with where I am. I listened to the song and almost didn't recognise myself.

I'm ready for more and if C.B thinks we are gonna slow down, he must just think again. Now that I know what I can do I NEED to do more. The song is sounding so pretty. Just as soon as my little brother decides to come back to Cape Town and work on the MySpace Page (hey he needs to work for all the weekends he spends here, eating up my food and making me pay for the movies, dinner, drinks etc LOL!).

This EP will be done by the end of June- that's my word!!

Another great tune

I first heard 'America' by Razorlight last year when I still did the radio show from 6-9 am on Saturday mornings... I kind of miss that show and the wonderful Dineo (who was my producer)! It's from their 2nd album and it is an absolute pleasure to listen to. When I have a little bit of time (and money- this EP is taking up the bulk of my money) I will go get their CD, there has to be more good music on it.

Razorlight- America

I feel like...

listening to Corinne Bailey Rae again. I listened to her album over and over yesterday and I'm at it again. I must admit that I was 'sleeping on' Corinne's whole album. I had a few favourites, but her album is on repeat on my iPod and I'M LOVING IT!!!
New favs:
Till it happens to you
Call me when you get this
Breathless
Choux Pastry heart

Yes, I'm falling in love with Corrine Bailey Rae's album all over again!!!

Wise words

"Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with song still in them."

Henry David Thoreau

It is this quote that made me get out of bed with a song on my lips and a story waiting to be told. For a brief moment in time I lived a life of quiet desperation and I am determined never to live that way again.

It's a great day, *I'm spending all day on my writing (perhaps 2 hours of piano and guitar practice) and the weather is perfect. I'm in my bed with a cup of Chai and ready to write. Yay!!

*I was supposed to finish off the Teacup song but C.B is having a nightmarish day, so we moved it to Friday.

You have to love...

Proud Mary, the Ike and Tina version

It's pure magic!!!!

Gorgeous Green Dress

WOOHOOOOOOOOO!!! Yesterday Marcee and I needed to pick up a few groceries so we went to the V&A. As per usual she dragged me to some clothing stores and I didn't even protest, I'm really starting to get into this shopping thing :)

We went to Mango, Accesorize and on our way to Clicks (to get some Bio Oil for this dry winter skin) I saw this DRESS at Slate. I had to go inside and check it out... Try it on... Consider buying it, even though I had only planned to buy Carrots, Cheese, Lettuce and Chai Tea only. The thing is ever since I started thinking about outfits for the CD sleeve I knew immediately that I wanted to be wearing a Green dress on the cover. The dress looks good, so I bought it. I think spending time doing Tae Bo and listening to Billy Blanks say 'Squeeze your ba-dacks, learn something about yourself' is paying off, I look good in that GORGEOUS GREEN DRESS!

YAY YAY YAY!! I bought the first item of clothing for my 'sleeve and PR shots'. I'm ecstatic! I don't mind that Marcee and I are doubling up as stylists too. LOL! She's organised a make-up artist for the shoot, that's taking place in 2 weeks time. Very efficient this Marcee.

I'm recording the final Teacup song frills tomorrow. And then we move on to the other 5 songs. I'm revved and ready to go- YAY!!!

Pls God let him have a great sense of humour

Now it's no secret that I have much respect for John Mayer and I have said that it doesn't hurt that he is a bit of a cutie too. I love fellow weirdo's (I mean that in the coolest most endearing way possible) it makes me feel like I'm not 'the only one'.

So I was playing on the 'INTERWEB' and came across this post on John Mayer's blog. With sensible footwear indeed! When I grow up and find a nice guy who I want marry, I pray to God that he has a sense of humour. This John guy is kind of funny LOL!

I better start putting together a list of things that I would like from my Mr Right... While I compile the list i will let you enjoy Mr Mayer's other talent- pulling cute faces while performing his heart out (that doesn't sound right, but what the heck!)

Inspiration and genius- one and the same
Victor Hugo

You have to love...

This video blog by Mr Diddy himself, showing some love to our boy Kanye. Apparently his show was OFF THE HOOK, made Diddy fall back in love with Hip Hop. There is nothing like having your peers notice and appreciate your hard work.

We would love to see this 'Glow in the dark' show, it sounds amazing. Too bad we will only be in New York in December. I guess the Christmas lights will have to do... Don't they glow in the dark too? Oh well...

The week that was

This week has been full of ACTION (not that kind, get your mind out of the gutter).

  1. Put down vocals for the Teacup song, putting down some final extras next week on Wednesday. EXCITING!!

  2. Finally FINISHED that song about a guy LOL!! It took forever to find the perfect 'middle part' for the song. I'm trying to organise a recording at a nice place with great acoustics- I'm freaking out because it's all coming together AAAAAHHH!!

  3. Worked out even though I was supposed to be taking it easy. I must be addicted to hearing Billy Blanks telling me to SQUEEEZE my ba-dacks!! I'm really getting into this exercise thing, it's fun.

  4. Met up with a friend from Jozi on Saturday. What was originally supposed to be a quick drink with the girls turned into a LATE NIGHT after lots of and lots of wine and catching up. A good time was had by all :)

  5. I interviewed Aya and she was just delightful. Very bubbly and VERY VERY positive, she is this weeks 5-in-1 (5 questions, one person in 1 week) for the radio show.

  6. I picked up my guitar and started working at it again. I bought this damn guitar and I've been neglecting it for months. I decided I'm going to get myself through the 'guitar-101-for-complete-effing-idiots' book that I bought with it. once I have gotten through the book I will take guitar lessons. I didn't have the opportunity to learn how to play any instruments when I was younger so I'm making up for lost time.

  7. My fridge was smelling funny, so I decided to take everything out an clean it. There were 2 items, I cannot for the life of me make out what thy used to be, that were STINKING up my fridge. I should have sent the specimens to the folks over at Fear Factor LMAO!!

  8. Started looking for outfits for the photo shoot: for the cover of the EP.

That's it!!!

I feel like...

John Legend! This morning on the show I heard Al Green's new song featuring John Legend- AMAZING!! So I had to had to have some more 'John music'. This morning I listened to both his albums and I came to the conclusion that we have been waiting too long for his new album.

JOHN WE ARE READY FOR OUR NEXT HIT!!!

I'm not sure which album I like more, so I'm gonna go ahead and say both are my favourites.

EP- Teacup song

Okay... I'm very excited!! I started doing the final vocals for the Teacup song. I have to decided what the songs is actually gonna be called, Teacup song just sounds so wrong. I must admit that I was a little nervous when I woke up this morning. Writing the songs is very different from actually RECORDING them. So much pressure to make sure that we get the PERFECT take and that I keep making beautiful sounds. PRESSURE!!

C.B (producer) is going to give me rough version of the song on Saturday- yay!! Then I can start working on the pretty frilly bits- harmonies etc. As soon as the track is done, I'm gonna make a 'snippet' available :)

Now I have to start thinking about things like a MySpace page, Facebook group etc etc etc. This is all sooo exciting and when I feel a little overwhelmed I just turn to my writing. The 1ST NOVEL is coming along nicely. I'm hoping to meet up with an editor soon. The first draft will be ready by the end of next month... This is all very exciting for me.

Good times. Good times!!

Wise words

There are two things to aim at in life; first to get what you want, and after that to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind has achieved the second.
Logan Pearsall Smith

I feel like...

... watching a good movie, so Marcee got us one of my favourites: Lady in the water. I'm a big M. Night Shyamalan fan. Apparently Lady in the water wasn't very well received in the US- BLAH! I like it so much that I have watched it more than 3 times, so guess I am not cut out to be a movie critic.

After watching The 6th sense I was HOOKED. Then came Unbreakable (MAGIC!), Signs (Joaquin is kind of cute), The Village (One of those that you can only watch once though) and now The Happening! I must admit that the trailer for The Happening wasn't very impressive though. I'll let you know what i think once I've watched it.

M. Night shares the number one spot with Tarantino... Don't even get me started on Tarantino!

They get it from me

My brother has the most gorgeous children in the world and since he is not half as pretty as the children I'm starting to think that they get it from me LOL!! I'm such a lucky aunt :)

Khutso the baby, she is growing up so quickly :)
Tumi, don't let that sweet face fool you he is quite a handful. But he is so cute...

This is princess Kamo, what a pretty and intelligent little lady. You see whose teeth she's got right LOL!!

You see!! They get those good looks (and brains) from me :)

PS lack of posting is because I have some sort of viral infection thing-majiks and it's got me feeling pretty BLAH!!

You know you're a girl when...

you hear the following quote while having a chilled night out:

"She was using fanny wax on her lip and she wonders what went wrong..."

I have pretty funny friends, but that is by far the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. We were looking so classy in our 'grown up' coats and sipping on exotic cocktails at cute place in Long Street (I had never heard of the place before and now I've forgotten the name).

You've got to love being a woman!!! The story of the fanny wax and the lip is not half as funny as that quote, so I wont bother telling you about it. I love these eloquent and gorgeous creatures who call themselves my friends. LMAO!

Wise words

"Each of us has that right, that possibility, to invent ourselves daily. If a person does not invent herself, she will be invented. So, to be bodacious enough to invent ourselves is wise."
Maya Angelou
What a beautiful soul! She is one of the people I hope to meet in this lifetime.

EP Diary - tea cup

Met up with the producer and the tea cup song is almost done- we are doing final vocals next week on Wednesday and then he does his magic!!

I'm pretty excited about this whole project. I've been talking about it for close to 2 years. I did the demo and now I'm ready for my EP. If anything this project has taught me to take things slowly, no matter how frustrating that may be. Had I rushed things 2 years ago, I would be stuck with a know-it-all bozo (remind me to tell you about that joker), with no creative control or joy. I'm so glad that I met up with Galen because he was patient and he let me take control on my demo... AAAAHHH!! THANKS GALEN!!

I am finally feeling in control and confident of my talent. I know I'm not uber-sexy (and that's not even my thing), I'm no Ella or Nina, neither am I no Beyonce or Amerie... I am ME!! That's what the tea cup song is all about. It's me taking back my power and loving the thrill of being me.
I'm gonna make a snippet of tea cup as soon as it is DONE. I CAN'T WAIT!!

I dug up an old picture of me being me... Oh and the gorgeous creature next to me is an ex classmate Liza.

The week that was

After 2 days of work, for some people, it's back to work for most of you. I work through public holidays, so there is no excitement for me. The only exciting thing about public holidays is that I get to spend more time with MARCEE!!

  1. We went to the spa (Elixir) on Thursday for one of the long wknd special: full body massage, facial and mini reflexology. It was DIVINE!! I have since decided to have a massage and facial once every month. It's great to be young and single LOL!!!
  2. EP is back on track (see post below).
  3. SAMA's came and went and HHP took home two (Best Hip Hop album & Best male solo artist)... It's been a long time coming Jabba.
  4. We FINALLY finished the constitution for our NPO, we're sending it off by the end of this week.
  5. Went to go see 'Street Kings'. Keanu Reeves was surprisingly un-Neo-like, Forest Whitaker was great and Common and Cedric 'The entertainer' were in the movie as well. Junior and Marcee were so skeptical; Junior wanted to watch Iron man and Marcee was sitting in the fence (Traitor!).
  6. 2 weeks ago we went to dinner with an ex-colleague of ours at Madame Zingaras in Century City (got one or two photos, will post later).
  7. Still doing TaeBo and skipping (for 15 minutes 3 times a week)... I love TaeBo because Billy Blanks is so animated. Gotta love it when he says 'Squeeze your ba-da-cks (buttocks)! Learn something about yourself!" LOL! I can't work out in front of other people, so I work out to my TaeBo DVD in my little apartment :)
  8. My little brother is in Jozi for a month to re-write his Maths exams, oh I miss the messy little bugger!
  9. Am working hard at my first novel too. It's becoming less dark, but still no Bridget Jones story :). I'm hoping that I will be done before the year ends. You could actually be reading it at around Christmas time...
  10. I've made a COMMITMENT to LIVE CREATIVELY because that is when I'm happiest, when I'm being creative and I intend to make money living creatively :0)

That's it!

EP Diary - making progress

So after taking some time off (to be sick), we finally got back to work. This is how things are looking:

Teacup song is almost done, almost ready to put down final vocals. YAY!!!

'Song for...": Worked on the breakdown for this song because it was feeling a little monotonous and I'm gonna see if we can record at SABC auditorium and C.B can play on the most amazing sounding piano. Just me and the piano on this one, although C.B keeps saying adding a violin in the song could be WONDERFUL!! I'm not convinced, but we'll see...

Lovelies- Oh goodness, what a pretty little ditty... Still working on it.

We have 2 more songs to go and one of them is reggae-inspired.... CANNOT WAIT!

We are getting together outfits for the cover shoot- nothing fancy, no excessive use of photoshop and no FHM cover shots LOL!! The shoot is happening first week of June... I know, I know, I'm cutting it fine, but I really need more time to shop for my cover outfits. It'll be worth it!

Gonna have to start looking for a band soon- the fun never stops :)

Too many assholes with opinions in the world

I was having a very productive and fun day today (I still am), but for about 15 minutes I was totally pissed of with ASSHOLE-ISHNESS of someone.

Why is it that when someone finally decides to do what makes them happy there is some asshole, and I can usually handle assholes, with an OPINION (far worse than a regular asshole) on how someone else should live their lives.

I am completely unsympathetic towards these sad types who never really grew into the 'super heroes' with Bentley's and mansions that they thought they would be. So these people make it their business to piss on intelligent females (in this case) who have come up AGAINST ALL ODDS and have come to know their worth. Why? Because they think this ASSHOLE-ISH behaviour makes them a better person. Whatever happened to live and let live huh? Why is that when someone displays a little bit of courage and does what makes them happy, there is someone waiting in the wings to say 'YOU WILL NEVER DO IT, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?'. That is just so messed up!

I am so sick of OPINIONATED ASSHOLES today... Maybe I'll be a little tolerant tomorrow :)

Now I know why Kanye went off at EW in this post (I love it when he says '...and if you see me... BOW!!' Classic). Some people just can't let things be, they always have to be negative and look for someone to piss off. I'm feeling that way right now. And what would a Kanye moment be without a humourous ending like: I'M STILL THE GREATEST!!! LOL!!!

Maybe tomorrow I will come back a lot calmer and post one of these as well. Rant over!
